Considering that the basic plan comes with everything you’d need to start your Drupal-based website (2 MySQL databases, phpMyAdmin, and the latest PHP version support), this isn’t a bad thing at all. While Hostinger does advertise Drupal-specific hosting, these plans share many similarities to its shared hosting plans – including price. What’s even better is that even on the most basic plan, Hostinger features some of the fastest loading speeds I’ve seen in the shared hosting business, along with a near-perfect uptime. Starting at only $ 1.99 per month, Hostinger has one of the cheapest shared hosting plans available today. Hostinger – Super-Cheap Drupal Hosting with Impressive Performance Hostinger’s optimized servers helped my Drupal site perform better than I expected The hosts on my list provide a way to easily upgrade your plan and increase your allotted resources.ġ. If you’re creating a large project with Drupal, you will need a host with scalable resources. I paid special attention to hosts that provide a flexible set of development features and tools. Drupal is a highly flexible and customizable CMS, which is a big draw for developers. I looked for hosts that provide extensive help with Drupal, both through support and tutorials. Drupal isn’t the easiest CMS to work with, especially for those unfamiliar with PHP or MySQL/MariaDB. That’s why I’ve picked hosts with extra strong security features. While Drupal is more secure than WordPress, it’s still experienced some major vulnerabilities in the past. After all, a site can’t be very useful if it takes too long to load or isn’t available. ![]() One of my top priorities was choosing hosts with fast loading speeds and reliable uptime. While ranking the best web hosting services for my Drupal site, I looked for these features. I tested as many hosts as I could, eventually cutting it down to the best six. That’s why I decided to take a close look at the top web hosts to see which of them can best serve your Drupal website. And once your site is ready for its debut, your host’s performance and uptime (or lack of) will be just as important as its features. Although virtually all hosts are capable of supporting CMSs, they don’t necessarily offer the resources – or system requirements – you’ll need to run your site smoothly. In fact, I came across this same problem recently. But if you use the more flexible and secure Drupal, it can be difficult to find a hosting solution that suits your particular needs. Many hosting providers focus on offering WordPress hosting, which makes sense – after all, WordPress is the most popular CMS (content management system) around. ![]() Or…you can turn your Kedron Flume outing into a less grueling but still formidable loop hike and visit another nearby waterfall. You can turn right and climb for another punishing 1.2 miles to the top of Mount Willey. But instead, I kept on climbing as the Kedron Flume Trail made an even steeper, scramble-y ascent, gaining another 423 vertical feet before leveling out and concluding at the Ethan Pond Trail. (Since the climb is only 0.8 mile long, you could strap the chair to your pack and not get too annoyed as it slaps against the back of your legs.) Once you’ve had your fill of the flume, you could simply backtrack down the steep trail for an efficient 1.6 mile out-and-back hike. I could have gladly spent an hour hanging out at Kedron Flume if I had the foresight to pack a folding beach chair up the trail with me. The Kedron Flume Trail climbs 646 vertical feet in 0.8 miles just to reach the flume itself, so by the time the leafy deciduous trees begin transitioning to dark green boreal conifers, you’ll likely be ready to plop down and empty an entire water bottles over your head. In other words, the Kedron Flume Trail is a grim New England classic.Īs you wheeze and drip and wonder why you didn’t opt for the more conventionally pleasant summit trail up nearby Mount Willard, you’ll catch occasional glimpses of the distant base of Crawford Notch from which you started your hike. Stones bulge from the earth like swollen organs, with sinewy roots draped over them and occasionally serving as handholds. Once you’ve crossed over the tracks, you’ll notice that the Kedron Flume Trail becomes raggedy and steeper on the other side. ![]() This is part of the route for the Conway Scenic Railroad, which offers daily trips from North Conway through the notch. A set of switchbacks delivers you to a clearing where railroad tracks run alongside the “wall” of Crawford Notch. The Kedron Flume Trail is far more rugged and desolate, but in that nice way which will make your dinner taste extra savory come sundown. Some of you probably know this place as The Flume, one of the most popular New Hampshire state parks, where you can easily pass through the misty, watery chasm on a series of twisting boardwalks.Ĭrawford Notch is home to some popular waterfalls hikes such as Ripley Falls and Arethusa Falls, where the trails are spacious and well-worn. The gorge had been covered by a glacier during the Ice Age, but once thawed, it became the channel through which a mountain brook made its way into the deciduous woodlands below. (Talk about nonagenarian goals.) But instead of stumbling across a decent trout pool, Aunt Jess found something way cooler: an 800-foot granite gorge festooned with waterfalls and moss. One day in 1808, the 93 year-old New Hampshire resident went poking around the woods near Franconia Notch, searching for a good place to fish. Many of the 19th Century flumes that were used for transporting timber were man-made, but naturally-occurring flumes predate mankind by many eons. ![]() So what is a flume, exactly? Technically, it’s a narrow channel or ravine through which water passes. You’ve got your logs, you’ve got water, and you’ve a tight and stony flume through which the water shoots and sloshes. But the baseline joy of a good log flume ride is how it feels like a roller coaster slapped together with elements of the natural world. Part of what I still love about log flumes is the atmospheric touches that are lacking on most amusement park rides: the way the loading station often resembles a sawmill, the Western-style fiddle and banjo music echoing from speakers posted around the ride, and the tunnels through which the flume will often run. Sure, roller coasters and spinning rides were fun, but there was a unique magic to stepping into a hollowed-out “log” boat and riding it through a narrow, winding waterway to a series of conveyor belt lifts and plunges. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I was a log flume kid. Drawing Area or Drawing Canvas in which we draw certain images it’s an area where the work is performed. If you shift to the left by 2, that's like replacing Values and subtract 2 from them, and then when you add 2, you're going to get back to these values. When x is equal to negative 2, you see the asymptote right over there. Now we're going to see the asymptote when this whole expression, x plus 2 is equal to 0, x plus 2 is equal to 0 when One way to think about it is in the original negative log base 2 of x, we see this asymptote at x equals 0. You would replace the x with an x plus 2. How do you shift to the left by 2? You would replace the x with an x plus 2. At every one of these points, we have shifted to the left by 2. What's the difference between the green graphĪnd the blue graph? If you look carefully, you see, you see that the blue graph is essentially the green graph shifted to the left by 2, shifted to the left. That's y equals negative log base 2 of x. It's going to look something like this, something like this. y equals negative log base 2 of x is going to look something like this. That point right over here, and then let's see, instead of it 1/2, it's We're going to go there, and then this, this is going to go through Just going to flip it over, we're just going toįlip it over the x-axis, so we're going to go there. You could get close to 0īy raising 2 to a very, a very, very, very negative a very, very, very negative value, and this thing right over To raise 2 to to get to 0? Well, you can't. If you put an actual 0 right over here, what power would you have Then we see that as xĪpproaches 0 from the right, to get closer and closer to 0, you have to raise 2 to more and more and more negative values, so the log, as we approach 0, it becomes very, very, very, very, very negative. As x becomes really, really, really large, you think about what powerĭo I have to raise 2 to, 2 to to get that x? Well, it's going to increase, but it's going to increaseĪt an ever-decreasing rate. This is the behavior that we would expect. Now let's just graph some of these points. 2 to the negative 3 power is equal to 1/8. What about 1/4? Let's just remind ourselves what y equals log baseĢ of x even looks like, and then we could think about what happens if we were to add 1 or subtract 1 from it, or if we were to shift it a little bit. Before we even address these, we all see that they all have a log base 2 in the function definition. In this graph right over here? I'm assuming you've given a go at it. This is helpful when learning to program and not knowing exactly what you are doing. You can read your radio, email me or someone with my skill set your 'codeplug' (programming file) and I can edit it and setup the radio how you ask for it to be done and then I email it back. The other thing with the programming is the files are portable. I have less invested in all my 2500's and 5000's than a single APX 7000 costs. Of course they have been phased out and replaced with the APX radios and those are a whole different animal. And the overall quality if so much better with the commercial stuff, and the apex of that is the 5K's for their manufactured window of time. I can charge 6 radios or batteries at a time. I have bank chargers that my radios set in. The radio will send the command string and your node will do it's thing.Īccessories is another thing that commercial radios have that the CCR's and ham stuff lack. You just select the command you what and push the PTT. ![]() But setting up the node DTMF commands so you can connect and disconnect to the different main nodes is nice. Now actual phone numbers on GMRS with a phone patch is a no no. If you are a system owner / operator on the network, the one nice thing with either of the radios is you can program 'phone numbers' into the radio. Not sure that the commander mike will work with the 2500's but I have never tried. The 5K's are a bit larger and heavier than the 2500's but I run a fire rig (shoulder strap and leather case) with a commander mike (has volume and channel control on the mike. Programming is no harder than setting up a CCR Baofeng, due to their almost hostile software. I have a multiband commercial antenna on it so it works with all three bands. I like my 5K's because I have an XTVA in my van which allows me to drop any of the three radios in and have a handheld control head and external speaker. The one 5K is an 800 system radio and the equivalent 2500 is 900 and used for hamĭurability is about the same. I have BOTH the 5000's in 3 bands and the 2500's in 3 bands. I haven't talked to anyone there, but I haven't seen any availability of the cps software at their place, I almost feel like I should wait to buy radios until after I source the software. The cable is not cheap, and the impress charger and or battery was the most expensive upgrade. Thanks for the reply, there is an option for trunking abilities, didn't appear to change the price, otherwise yes the aes upgrade added some, and my thinking, was if I ever wanted to sell it, the aes would be an add I could use to justify a price. IIRC, the only hardware based upgrade is AES encryption - but I could be remembering that wrong. Many upgrades are software based and you could do them yourself IF you get your hands on that software (different from the programming software) otherwise you might have to pay someone to do them. ![]() but it doesn't hurt to have both options enabled. ![]() ADP encryption is probably enough for 99.999% of people, and AES requires an expensive "keyloader" before you can use it. IMHO, I would be sure to get a Model III which has the screen and all the buttons - the only other options that comes to mind is ADP and AES encryption. The biggest downside is probably getting your hands on the Motorola programming software and then learning how to use it. and the size, it is, without a doubt, the best radio you can use as far as performance, durability and quality. Me, and most of the guys in my local GMRS-Dork group all use XTS5000s. ![]() Obviously nobody needs all of them, but with a few that you use you will have already saved money. We already mentioned it before, but it is worth noting that buying each of these applications or subscribing to their services separately could cost thousands of euros per month. There are all kinds of them, since Setapp has an interface adapted to each category of application, finding many focused on productivity, developers, text editors, photographic or video professionals, file decompressors … Endless tools that you can have at your fingertips. Maybe this will change if things don't work out, but right now, Setapp appears to have a very bright future ahead of it.While there are standout names like Clean My Mac optimizer or Ulysses text and notes editor, they are many standout programs. I know for sure that Apple will be watching very closely to see how customers on the Mac react to it.Īs a user and developer, I've been very happy with Setapp and would recommend it to anyone. I think Setapp is going to be a very popular service, especially as more high-quality developers get on board. ![]() Setapp has been allowed to seemingly spring up overnight because Apple appears to be leaving the Mac App Store to languish. My experience so far suggests this shouldn't be a problem, but again, only time will tell. This is important because if developers aren't receiving a fair share of revenue they'll soon start to remove their apps. Having fewer apps on the service means there's less competition for developers, and in turn, this should result in developers getting a more respectable amount of revenue (providing their app gets used). Ideally, I'd like the revenue to be in the $4,000+ a month range, hopefully, things will pick up and we'll get there sooner rather than later. As more users join Setapp our monthly revenue should increase, the general trend appears to be an upwards one. Setapp has generated us over $11,000 in revenue so far. Either way, they are using our apps, and that's what really counts. However, if people are okay with subscriptions they can use Setapp. I understand some customers don't like subscriptions and that's fine, they can still buy directly from us. If you put your product in front of more people, you'll sell more units (providing it's a half-decent product). Making your apps available in multiple places works just like selling products in the real world. If Setapp was full of junk apps there's no way I'd pay ten bucks a month for it. If the quality of apps decreases then the subscriber base will plummet. I think this will be key to its success in the long run. This means MacPaw can make sure only top quality apps get added to the service. The service is also invite-only for developers. For example, RapidWeaver and Squash sales have stayed the same, but we've picked up more users (and revenue) via Setapp. I personally don't think it'll affect direct sales or Mac App Store sales in a negative way. They worry they'll lose out as more and more of their users sign-up for Setapp instead of buying directly. The main concern I've heard from developers is about revenue. I do however know that I'm willing to give it a chance. I honestly don't know if it'll make sense in the long run, or if it's really got a shot at being one of the major platforms for app distribution. I've been asked by a lot of Mac developers what I think of Setapp. I will, however, list out a few of my favourites to give you an idea of the quality: CleanMyMac, Ulysses, Focused, Screens, iStat Menus, Sip, NetSpot, and of course, our own apps, RapidWeaver, and Squash. I'm not going to list out all of the 100+ apps here because you can head over to the Setapp website to see the full list. If you purchased all of those apps outright It'd easily cost more than $2,500 (USD). I personally think the service is ridiculously cheap, especially when you consider there are now over 100 high-quality apps included. You can also cancel at any time (no long-term contracts). You get the first month free so you can test out all the apps, and no you don't need a credit card to sign-up. For a fixed monthly fee you get access to around 100 Mac apps. The twist here is that it's based on quality, not quantity. What is Setapp?Īt its heart, Setapp is a Mac app subscription service. I believe it has the potential to change the Mac app market in a big way. Every so often something comes along that tries to change, or shift the way things are done.
